$30 NL tournament date?

Postby Action Greggo » Wed Mar 09, 2005 9:38 am

Hey Tom,

Any decision on the next $30 NL Hold Em Tournament date? Last I saw there was a vote out on the forum, but no official word from the decision-maker.

I'll bet on April 9, too, if it'll help.

this tournament is cancelled till someone can provide mathematical proof that K-10 off is a better hand preflop than QQ...

sorry... i dont feel i can host a tournament if i dont even know how to play ... cause obviously i am getting my math mixed up... no sense in me flushing money down the drain.....

There is no way to mathematically prove that KT is better than QQ preflop. I assume by "better" you mean "has a higher probability of winning the hand."

However, K10 can be better than QQ in two scenarios:

1) Hindsight. It's 20/20 and if you know what cards are going to come/did come then it's easy to prove that KT is better than QQ for that specific test case/deck arrangement. Since we defined "better" by "more likely to win" then we can look at all the cards, and determine that K10 had a 100% chance of winning, and it is "better."

2) Psychology. If I know you'll go nuclear when I call with K-10 (and somehow magically know you have QQ) then I can put you on-tilt. In addition, even if you're not the angry type of person, if you think I'm going to call everything under the sun with only a face card, I stand to be able to suck you out with the nuts. Maybe not today (since it was all-in) but maybe when I'm on the bubble in that big tourney you'll double me up and give me a second lease on life.

This isn't the goddamn WSOP with table cameras. It's not like he looked at his K10 and your QQ and said "Hmm, mathematically I should be calling here." All he had was his cards, and he either thought he could win, or thought he push your magic Tilt button with a bad call. If we were all math robots this game would be no fun.

Speaking of the game being fun, when is the 30-man tourney? :)

so it is ok for all of them to push my buttons .. but it is not ok for me to act the way they want me to act ?
that is confusing to say the least ... they got what they wanted... they got me mad. this is not my doing it is theirs.

I am not asking for people to be mathematical robots .. but common sense does not hurt ... and frankly i dont hink he was doing anything but making a bad call and relying on luck... but to call it skill or a good play is ridiculous call it blind luck which is what it is ..

the problem Don is they do this all the time... they purposely call and call and call and they always land .. its frustrating... then they have the balls to laugh about it ... i especialy like how mr rob at one of these odd night tournaments(in january) said
" I dont see how you do so well online cause you suck , have you ever even placed in the money at one of your own tournaments?"

these types of comments are not ones that when told over and over again someone is going to take friendly... its like rubbing salt in the wound when he wins with K-10 off in a ring game and K-5 when there are three people left in a tourney and he is making bad calls and just lucking out...

its also not exactly nice to insult the host in his house... maybe i am old fashion but dont expect me to be nice to some shit like that .

as far as your mathematical conclusion that is interesting to say the least but not reality.... i will give you credit if this was a riddle .. . :)

Sometimes people will be gunning for you. If they're intentionally making bad calls to piss you off (for entertainment value) I don't think that's very kind of them either.

However:

Is all you need to get an apology imho. Forget the cards and the math, I'd say it comes down to:

Hey guys, you're my friends. We've known each other a long time, and means we can rip on each other without fear of physical harm. However if you're going to make bad calls to piss me off, at least own up to the fact that that's what you're doing. (author's note: being a valid strategy, owning up to it isn't a bad thing) If you land, have the good sense to defend it sarcastically (BUT THEY WERE SUITED!) but don't try to act like it was an "OMG POKER PRO!" move.

Yeah, I think that'd fix it.

them apologizing would mean them admitting to be wrong .. and that will never happen ... this is the last i wil lspeak of this .. the whole thing is idiotic... they were being jerks .. which made me mad and turned me into a huge asshole... they wont own up to their part in this and that is fine .. its over get on with life.
