I think PAD was taped before the recent spat, but I think the two have to be related.
Phil Gordon has quite an ego, and I think he would agree. But, I also think he's sincere when he says he's not as good as the world-class players. He would like to be considered on their level, but knows he's not. The problem is that in poker, a person doesn't know what those better than him (or her) know, and so doesn't know what the difference is, making it easier to discount.
I think Phil Gordon is a good announcer and analyst (articles and DVDs and I would guess books). I really liked the old tiltboy stories, and have enjoyed getting to know some of those guys through e-mail and seeing Phil Gordon at BARGE last year. But, as he tries to become a great poker teacher and analyst, he is going to ruffle some feathers. The reason why I think he's good is because he explains all the basics very clearly. But, rarely have I heard him talk about anything beyond what I consider basic. And, despite his 4th place at the Main Event and win on the WPT, he doesn't have the skins that some of these guys do and he doesn't play the big cash games. So his play isn't as respected as some others and he goes on tv and the internet and criticizes the play of players more respected than he. Others are going to get upset, and I think he's got to understand why.
That said, I thought Lindgren admitting that he was upset mostly at getting caught on a bluff was big of him. And, Gordon not taking it too far and apologizing was big of him.
So, while I don't think they're ever going to be buddies, I respect them both a lot, and the situation probably enhanced that respect more than undermine it.
Watching Tilly is interesting. She knows when she's outclassed, and she knows her chest heaves when she's got a big hand, but she's in there mixing it up with these real pros, and other than the JJ hand, I think she's played fairly well (I haven't yet seen the 4th episode). I think it goes to show that a player with good basic abilities is not that far off from the pros, as long as he/she doesn't play scared.
As far as Chris Ferguson is concerned, I think I'm biased because of my respect for him, but I really enjoy him being in the lineup whenever I watch poker on TV.
