The phrase "nothing you could do there.."

..you were losing your money on that pot. I dont know if I like that phrase. Heard again today. I limp in with A2 suited from the small blind..flop comes, A,10,A. Yeah..I'm worried about my kicker if the guy i'm heads up with has an Ace. Turn is a J..we get the money in. Shows me pocket 10's. I know it's terrible to play an Ace-shitty..but i thought for sure we were chopping it. Sick. He played it perfectly..I never would have put him on pocket 10's. What do you guys think about this phrase? It's just like a set-over-set thing.."Oh you had bottom set.. he had top set.. there was no way you're laying it down."

Out of curiousity, if the turn had come lower than a 10, at what point would you assumed it wouldn't be a chop?
A-T-A-7? A-T-A-6?

Generally I agree with the phrase. There are some situations that you are gonna get into where a read is impossible. Set over set is a good example, because a set reads almost exactly like two-pair.

If you have 88 in a raised pot and the flop comes A-K-8 and the pre-flop raiser check-raises you, it's pretty tough to almost impossible to put him on a set.

Imagine he's not the preflop raiser, he's just a preflop raise caller, then the read gets even harder...

Further, putting him on a set (instead of two-pair) is probably the kind of read that will lose you money in the long run when the opponent is on a steal/only has top pair.

I'm just gonna go ahead and blame it on the day. 6-6-6 is not a good day to play poker. I flopped a set of deuces..up against a guy with top two.. money goes in on the turn..he's sad to see he is beat until the river comes with another Ace for a better full house. $250 pot.

lol, OK. See if you believe in the numberic depiction of the Antichrist then you probably believe on some level in the Bible. Therefore accordincg to the Apocolyptic movements, poker, dancing, wine, and women are all bad.

No offence, but I like sopboxing on peoples superstiutions. It's just a number. The only reason I would not play poker today is because I was going to see "The Omen".

Andyway, you could always play sitting upside down...then it would be 999, and a set of 9's is never a bad thing.

Limping with a dry Ace kills you all the time.
