knocked out Tie in poker? split the winnings?

Postby TommyTwoToes » Sun Nov 13, 2005 9:01 am

Two people knocked out at the same time, how do they determine the placement of finish? I understand that it normally would be based on who had the most chips .. but what if they had the exact amount of chips ?

here is the situation that just occured ... using jims advice of sucking out on people cause it is all rigged it helped propel me to an early lead .. thx jim...

but now the question of who went out 9th and who went out tenth ? and what if this were to happen later in thegame when money is at stake?(granted it would be hard to have exact chip stacks at the end of a tourney but its possible)

notice that party poker said they both went out 9th... does this mean that they would both go out 3rd and split third place winnings ? I can only assume so ... but are there definitive rules on it ? does position or strength of hand come into play?

In most tournaments, they would tie for the higher place and split the money of the two places.

In the case of an absolute tie they could go by strength of hand -- so if they had the same amount of chips and lost they would say the pair of Aces beat the Pair of 2s or whatever.

I could be wrong but I think this happened in the WSOP 2004 championship where two guys went out with the same chip stacks and were on the bubble.

I believe Binions gave the first guy out the same prize as the guy who went out right after him, 10k each. I believe they were playing hand by hand and it was the same hand different tables.

They didn't have the same stacks, just went out on consecutive hands.
