choctaw's new poker room

Postby TommyTwoToes » Mon Feb 22, 2010 5:04 pm

that place is nice...
when i feel like playing in a casino and an hour drive I will be going there instead of winstar...
it rivals and in some respects is better than the vegas rooms...actually i cant think of a vegas room that is better looking/feeling...
(granted some rooms in vegas are just nice cause they have lots of people playing)
went there last night...

now if i could just kick this losing streak...

Can you tell me where the new room is relative to the entrances? What are they spreading on LHE? Anything larger than 4/8?

the guy said something like 30 tables... yes i know it is not as big as winstar...
but the feel is better.. it is more designed and comfortable... good lighting on the tables yet dimmer in the room overall.
at winstar... while it is nice... you have the feeling that you are in a big wharehouse type room... with tables placed in a grid pattern as to cram as many tables in as possible...

this place has a different layout feel to it and plenty of space between each table. you dont here the players at other tables talking smack to each other ...

the gay words i want to use are "warm" and "peaceful"

the chairs are great... i was there for 4 hours and never once thought about moving around from having a sore ass.

was there a few days ago....very nice room

although my losing streak is still going strong, 2nd time in a row ive made the trip to oklahoma, only to be broke within 30 minutes of getting there....both times getting put all in with the nuts after the flop only to get sucked out on, on either the turn or the river

Well if you count your bad beat wins in there, you still have to be in the positive.

Got the urge to play and went to Choctaw on Tuesday. I agree with TTT - the "feel" of the room is much better than Winstar. The chairs are great, and the lighting and the arrangement of the tables does not make you feel like you are in a giant warehouse, even though it is a 30-table room. The dealers were all very good - I never once heard a dealer speak when he shouldn't, and I never saw a dealer count down a stack when it wasn't requested - big pet peaves of mine. And the floorperson actually knew what he was doing also. They finally spent the money on a real tournament clock - The last time I played a $500 buyin tournament in the old room at Choctaw, they were still using a kitchen/egg timer.

And the waitresses were MUCH easier on the eyes than Winstar. Yummy.

Unfortunately, there was NO action. The Tuesday Bounty Tournament ($70 + $20 vig + $25 bounty + $5 dealer toke = $120) had 20 players, and for cash games they had a total of three tables of 1-2NL running, and all tables had at least 2 seats open. No other games running. I'm guessing the action is much better on the weekends.

But I really like the "new" Choctaw. The decor reminded me a lot of the Palms in Vegas, just without the energy and the hot chicks (except the waitresses). And apparently they still have issues with their liquor service. You can buy beer/booze in designated areas (bars), but you cannot take that said booze on to the casino floor.

The play was pretty bad, as was the structure of the tournament. I went out 5th in the tournament, right after I was the lone objector to a 5-way chop for $280 each (plus your own $25 bounty chip). FML.

I was surprised that I did not see ANYONE that I knew from Dallas poker circles. Anytime I go to Winstar, I see dozens of people I know. Hopefully Choctaw will start to draw more from the metroplex over time.
