I'm not in this bet, so I don't really care what you guys do with it. However, I just want to throw in my $.02

A workout is different for everyone. Everybody has a different goal when it comes to working out. I workout because I want to loose weigh. So for me working out harder necessarily isn't better. The reason for this is that if I'm working out and I have my heart rate at the lower end of my heart rate zone (example 114 to 131 BPM) I am burning more fat. If I'm in the middle of the Zone (132 to 151 BPM) I am doing more of a Cardio workout, so will I am burning fat, I burn more blood sugar from my liver to keep up with the amount of work. So instead of going my fat stores for energy, it is going to the blood sugar for faster energy.
If I'm in the high end of the zone (152 to 178 BPM) I begin to burn muscle to get more energy. Your Body will burn fat, sugar, and muscle when it can't get energy fast enough. this is my your muscles hurt when you work out hard. This sounds bad, but the benefit to this is that your muscle repairs itself...that is how you build bigger muscles....

Ok with that all said. If I'm walking on the tread mill, It is more beneficial to be them running because the goal of my workout is to burn fat.
When I was in high school, my goal was to bet bigger faster and stronger. So running on the treadmill would have been more beneficial because then walking.

So when someone says that your workout shouldn't count because you didn't work out hard enough, it's bullshit.....

that all I have to say about that....

I agree. I usually go too fast on the elliptical. I am hoping that as I slow down, and work out 4 times a week, I get in better shape, lowering my heart rate, so I can work out harder, and spiral upwards. You know?

Since the two guys that have had issues with the workout deal are myself and Mushmouth, I wanted to clarify.

We are in no way saying that what one guy does and another guy does is not a workout. That was never said. Was I getting frustrated when I was busting my ass in the gym, and someone wasn't? Yes, very. However, I never said one wasn't a workout and one was.

What I am saying (and, what Mike said on the thread yesterday), is that a workout is a planned thing. If you set out to do something and make it a workout....great. However, if you do something and then decide after you've done it that it's a workout, that's not really fair to the bet. The point I was trying to make with the sheetrock installation yesterday.

Nobody is questioning the levels of working out. It's a loophole to the bet. Since this bet doesn't require you to go to the gym, we have too many options to choose from.

On Friday, I went to the Texans/Cowboys game. I walked from the car to the stadium, and then once we got to the stadium, we had to walk all the way to the other endzone....while holding my daughter. I did the same on the return walk. This was a bitch. My arms, shoulders, and back were sore. Carrying fidgeting kids isn't fun. However, this was NOT a workout. I didn't plan on doing this. It just happened. And, this is the reason that I was at home walking the neighborhood late Friday night after the kids went to sleep.

That's all that I'm saying. Workout as hard as you want. Get your heartrate as high/low as you want. But, a workout is planned. If it's not, then your lifestyle really doesn't change. Sure, you can start to take the stairs rather than the elevators/escalators. However, we're talking about 45mins of working out.

And, Tommy, when reading your blog it just seems like you walked the strip and then decided to count it. If you would have just explained that you decided to walk at a pace, avoide the elevators, and even ran it by Jim (another person in the bet), that would have been 100% cool (and, it is). Instead you took as though you were being personally attacked, and quit. You weren't being bashed or questioned.

Don't find reasons to quit. You want to do this. I've heard you mention how you want to make this habit (working out). Well, there's no reason why you shouldn't.

Fuck, I feel like I just typed for 45mins. My hands are sore. Mark it down.

I have said that what you are doing as the workout is not in question, but more the intent. Jim even said this a few days back. I think this is what Shawn is saying. And to piggy back on what my Mexican Sheetrockin' friend said if the conversation was relayed between Tommy and Jim then it was fine by me. I emplore everyone to re-read what I said. I wasn't attacking anyone. I wasn't accusing anyone of cheating. I never said anything to that point should not count. Somehow this got twisted. All I was trying to do was open up a discussion on what should or should not count.

In my mind, and I am only ONE person in this bet, it is intent. If you choose to walk, with the intent of working out, then it should count. If you go to the gym, with the intent of working out, then it should count. If you go hiking, with the intent of working out, then it should count. If you offer to help someone hang sheet rock, and it wears you the fuck out, then it should not count as a workout to me.....because you didn't do it with the intent of getting the physical excercise. You probably ended up getting a better workout then most other days, but it wasn't the desired output

Is sex considered a workout? What happens if you weren't planning on having sex, but it just happened?

I would have to have sex 270 consecutive times for it to count! Dammit!

What if you planned to workout today around 5:00 pm. You were going to go to the gym and walk for 45 min On your way home from work your car breaks down and you are in the middle of no where. So you have to walk an hour to get to some help. Oh and this just happened to be on the 7th day and this was going to be your 4th workout. Is it ok to count the walk to get help as your workout? Cause I mean you planned to workout, but you didn't plan to walk to get help....

Were you physically challenged for 45 minutes and/or did you get anything out of it? Then I would say yes, dawg, it counts.
