so on the way in to work i heard Jason Smith (ESPN midnighter) interviewing Kiper and they were just talking random football stuff. Well apparently Kiper has and daughter who i would guess to be in her early 20's and has begun dating a guy and the relationship could possibly lead to marriage. So Smith asked Kiper what its like to watch a game with him...Kiper responded that in his 31 years of covering football not one person has ever sat and watched a college game with him. He wont allow it. Not his wife not his daughter, no one. And he said that he can count on one hand the times that he's watched a pro game with anyone. What a nutjob. And he was serious the whole time. i just thought that to be crazy talk

i can't imagine that.

given the option, i would never watch sports alone. i'm going to yell and scream at the tv and jump around either way. but i want to be able to look over at someone and say "did you see that?"

Well, watching football games/players is his JOB.
Self appointed, but it is what he has chosen to do
for a living. If your income depended your ability to
evaluate football talent, you might have a different
attitude while watching games as well.
He is not watching as a fan.

Ummm, I would want Mel Kiper's job. I'll talk to people when I have time. Hell, I'll use the money that I made to buy them dinner and talk to them at that time.

when I am at home I watch football all by myself. The wife hates it, sadly.

I see his point, though. While we watch for fun and rooting interests, he is taking notes on the backup from ND with amazing speed but bad hands, trying to determine if the Lions would need him and where he would be slotted in the mid to late rounds. I don't want people in my home office when I am trying to work (or pretending to work).

That doesn't excuse the hair in any way, however.

y'all are giving Kiper way too much credit. The reason he watches it alone is because he's a phony who's still trying to learn the game. ok, that's an over reaction, but seriously...I've lost count on the number of times he has no clue what he's talking about. My guess is he has developed several "reliable sources" from around the nation who watch their respective conference closely...then he just gets spoon fed the info as the season progresses. I know more from watching the combine on NFL network than this guy "studies" all season...isolated from everyone he knows?!? screw that!

Kiper is way up there on my all-time deuchebag list.

Not sure anyone is giving Kiper credit for being anything special. However, he has created his own position as "nfl prospect guru". I'd like that job, regardless of whether or not the nation thought I was a douchebag.

Is "deuchebag" German for douchebag?

And I agree with EasyTiger....give me that job and call me whatever you want. I would get paid handsomely to watch football.

exactly...much like San Diego is German for a whale's vagina.

I'd take that job in a heartbeat as well...I think we would all be able to present ourselves in a much less douchebaggy manner.

Mel Kiper isn't paid to analyze football. He's paid to glean info and pass it on, which he does exceedingly well. I don't think he's a douchebag, and as many of you know, I'm kind of an expert.

I think some people get together to watch football. It might even be close to your home...
