Muschamp to take over Texas when Brown retires

Muschamp to take over Texas when Brown retires
Eds: APNewsNow.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp
has been designated head coach-in-waiting by the university,
expected to take over the Longhorns when coach Mack Brown retires.
Muschamp is in his first year with Texas, but athletic director
DeLoss Dodds said Tuesday he and Brown know they want to keep him
at Texas. To do that, they will more than double his salary from
$425,000 to $900,000 in January. He will remain defensive
coordinator.
Dodds said he wants the 57-year-old Brown to coach for a long
time but said he wanted to line up Muschamp now to avoid the
"trauma" of a coaching search when the day comes that Brown steps
down.
The No. 4 Longhorns (10-1) are preparing for their Thanksgiving
night game against rival Texas A&M.

| Good move by Texas to keep him. If he really believes that no matter what he is the coach when Mack retires he is very gullible. Just like Jason Garrett. Not so sure he is the coach right now if Wade gets fired |

Yeh, good for Texas.
And yeh, he is gulliable if he thinks he automatically gets to succeed Mack.
Now we just gotta get rid of Greg Davis. You would think Mack would say to himself..."self, how come no one is coming after Greg Davis for a coaching job"
Yeh, when Wade gets fired later this year or early next year....is Garrett really gonna be elevated? |

This is the best of both for both sides.
Texas gets to keep a guy they are very confident in, and don't have to have the courting every year.
Will knows exactly what he is doing. He now doesn't have to go through the gauntlet of having to take a Cincinnati job, then up to a Texas A&M job, then up to an SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10 type job AND he gets paid as if he is going that route.
He gets the security, but not the risk. Texas gets security as well |

Totally agree.
Now what are we gonna do about Davis? |
