Can it be hacked like the old xbox?

What is the pro's con's to the 3 different Xboxs?

Pro?
Elite?
Arcade?

Trying to do decide which one to get.

I recommend the Pro, because it comes with the basic equipment you need for multiplayer (headset, memory, etc).

I think Haff has the pro version, but I could be wrong.

*Revised. I misspoke and meant the pro.

He has the Halo version. He's not sure which one that is equivalent to. He thinks that, for the money it cost him, it should be the top of the line.

Yes..the older versions can be hacked or moded. The Elite comes with a 120GB harddrive. Which is handy when saving games or downloading extra content. The Pro comes with a 20GB harddrive. If you already have a Pro, you can buy a larger harddrive for $180. But it's cheaper to just buy it with the Elite.

Apparently the Pro comes with a 60GB drive now.

Are there any issues with modded boxes and xboxlive? I read that Microsoft likes to update the xbox360 and it sometimes kills the modded chips and bricks the xbox. (specifically tomorrow, Nov 19th a new update is supposedly on the way to kill modded boxes)

Anyone run into these problems with your modded box?

I have tired head from reading all this xbox info all over the web now. <sigh>

I have a suggestion. Don't be cheap about it.

I know if MS caught you modding your box, they could cancel your subscription to Live.

Cheap and being smart are sometimes one in the same. I can get a 120GB drive or larger for less than $30...and all the extra gear that comes with the Elite can be had for a lot less all over the web than the extra cost for an Elite. Just my thoughts from trolling random sites today about the pros and cons on them all.

As for the Mod, yeh, I read if MS detects the mod you are banned from xboxlive. Apparently there are some work arounds to the mod to get around this though. The only reason I like mod boxes is because I am lazy and dont like putting the CD's into the box, I want to run them all from the xbox and never have to get up. Not sure I care much about Live anyway. I probably would once I got the thing though.

the only reason to paly most of thee games is the online multiplayer features ....

to say that you dont care about losing the xboxlive subscription is not thinking clearly.

I'm sure by being banned from Xbox live you wont get updates for games (i.e. patches) that some games require because of a glitch that was later found. So even though you may not do the online gaming aspect even the regualr games could suffer if that arises.

Awww. You don't have a 6 year old nephew that comes over and plays games all the time either. I probably wouldnt even bother with the xbox if it wasn't for him. He doesn't need LIVE....not yet anyway.

And as far as getting updates for the games. I can always download them and install them myself.

Yeah, I wouldn't let him get on Live until he was about 30. Unless you want him to be called a fag or n-bomb constantly. And those are some of the milder things that people come up with.

I've never wanted to physically harm children until I played on Live.

You do get the odd moment of hilarity on Live though. I was just in a hockey game and, during a stoppage in play, I heard this exchange:

Guy 1: Man, I love wearing sweat pants without underwear.
Guy 2: Why's that?
Guy 1: Because I get plenty of NRBs.
Guy 2: What's an NRB?
Guy 1: It's a No Reason Boner.

I was laughing so hard that I could barely play for the next minute.

If MS detects a moded xbox, then they ban the xbox. Not the account. So, should you have a moded box and it gets banned, you can transfer your stuff to a new one and then log back into xbox live.

Just an FYI, I learned this weekend that you can download games to the hard drive for instant play.

I assumed that much, but did it require you to put the disk into the Xbox in order for the game to play? Or was saving it to the xbox is all you had to do?

(when you say download, do you mean download from the internet or save from a CD?)

Save from the game disk. And I don't think you have to have the game disk in there to make it work. I will try it tonight and see.
