I am involved in a disussion about offensiveness with someone and he argued that a person has the choice of whether to be offended or not.
I disagree and say that you have no control over whether you are offended by something, but you do have control over how you react.
What say you all? |

I think for the most part, you have no control. It just kind of depends on the subject mater.
If you have no feeling one way or the other, you can choose weather you find it offensive or not.
If you feel stronly towards the subject, I think you have no choice and it is an automatic reaction.... |

I am of the opinion you decide to be offended or not offended.
Really, you are taught what is essentially "right" and what is "wrong".
If someone infringes on your belief system (which is also taught) you stand a chance to be offended. |
