So who is stil in this thing? Has anyone noticed any physical changes to the participants? It will be interesting for me to see you guys when I come back to pack up. (Assuming any of you bastards show up to help.)

Heather was surprised the other day when I told her I hadn't lost any weight, but I don't think anyone would notice a difference other than her.

I definitely know I'm more physically fit, just from the differences at the gym, but I'm discouraged results haven't been better.

As to who else is still in it, Trevor and Norm are both in it with me. I do hope Tom, Mike, Shawn, and Richard have continued working out.

I'm a little scared about the bet ending and then my routine changing back, but we'll see.

I've also been thinking about upping the amount we have to work out to qualify each week to force me to do more and possibly see better results. Norm, Trevor, any interest?

Weight Loss, for me zero. I fluctuate around 188 very consistantly. Its annoying for me personally.

The good part of the bet, its forcing me to do something 4 times a week, no matter what. Previously, I would only work out "whenever" it happened. Admittedly, some of the work outs my heart isn't into it, and I struggle to get through some of them, but its a LOT better than the old option of sitting on my ass and watching TV.

The Wife unit has joined me on occassion, this is good. Previously she did nothing.

During this whole thing, I have started to to make some little mini goals to accomplish....this will hopefully help me see some results personally.

Some of my mini goals are:
- perfect push up, it came with a workout routine, I want to be able to do the hardest routine in the program by the end of Novemeber.
- 100 crunches on the excercise ball in one sitting. I can easily do 200-300 crunches in one sitting on the ground no problem. When I started the excercise ball I could barely do 25-30. I am up into the 40's now.

Despite me not do 30+ minutes of regular cardio like you guys, I do see a difference in my overall fitness level.

I am semi-counting my calories now, trying to keep around 2500 calories. I want to tone up the muscles that I do have.

As far as adding a day to the workout routine, I am all for it. I have been toying around with it already also, I just don't watch the clock and make sure I do 45 consecutive minutes on the other workouts. If we want to make something official. Say the word, and I am in.

If you truly want to lose weight and/or see results. You must change up your routine. The bet has been going on for 3 months now. If you are doing the same stuff, your body has already aclimated to your routine and you are getting very little out of it. Easy things to change would be to crank up the insensity of the routine (run faster, on an incline , etc) or just change up altogether...ellipitical, stationary bike, aerobics, whatever. I would change it up every 2 weeks personally. Never give your body a chance to figure out what you are doing.

Norm, what is your opinion on upping the workouts somehow?

i think norm looked a little slimmer, but never paid that much attention before, so not really sure.

My thought was either adding a 5th day and keeping the 45 minute time, making the four days an hour each, or both. Currently, we "have" to work out 3 hours a week, which about 2.99 more than I used to average, but probably not enough to get the results I want. I'll be honest, however, that I don't want to make this challenging enough for you two to drop out, at least for awhile.

Glad we are on the same page. I don't want you guys to drop out either. At least not until I achieve some very noticeable results.

I like the idea of doing a hour 4 times a week, but in reality, I think working out 5 times a week will be more beneficial to all of us long term.

I am okay with 5 times a week at 45 minutes also.

And just an idea, maybe offer up a mulligan once a month where we can do just a 4 day workout week rather than the full 5?

Yeah, I'm more likely to work out longer each of the five times I go than to go a fifth time if I don't have to. I'm ok with the mulligan (maybe once every four or five weeks instead of a month just so it's not confusing).

Okay...so starting next week...we do 5 a week, with an optional "mulligan workout pass day" to be played no more than once every 4 weeks.

Cool yo?

I think we started with 7, with 4 (Shawn, Mike, Tom, and Richard) dropped out.

Agreed.
The blinds have just gone up, boys.
5 days a week
no mulligans

I do have one question.
(I think we should decide this right now.)
When do we go to six?

My thinking behind a mulligan, is three fold.
1. Allows us a chance to ramp up a little bit. 5 outta 7 days is phyiscally and mentally a lot more than 4 outta 7. It won't be as easy as you think it might me.

2. Holidays are right around the corner, vacation days, travel, etc. Having a mulligan in your pocket can be handy during this time.

3. I already work out 6 times a week as it is. (4 for this challenge and 2 karate days) I typically don't count my karate workouts if I don't feel I get 45 minutes of consecutive work in. Eventhough, the rules of the initial bet are simple "...go in with the intention of getting a workout..." I always go into karate class with the intention of getting some sort of workout in. meh. Anyway, I was just wanting to feel out the 5 outta 7 change a bit, see how I could work it into a permanent routine for me personally. (hopefully making it permanent, bet or not)

Anyway, whining over. If you wanna go 5 for 7 without a mulligan, I am okay with that too. I am not sure we should alter the rules so much that it might weed some of us out....at least not yet. So planning out the 6 of 7 is probably a good idea. Give us all something to work towards. Definately not before the first of the year IMO.

I'm ok with no mulligan and going to 6 the first week in January.
