|
|
Just got back in town today from our weeklong cruise to the Western Carribean. We were on the Carnival Conquest. We had both our kids with us, so I didn't get to the casino much at all. I stopped in here and there, and I found three different opportunities to play 2hour sessions on the PokerPro table.
For those that don't know, it's completely automated. You put your money on a credit-card setup specifically for the game. It's played on a table just like other 10-player hold-em tables. However, there is a large LCD screen in the middle of the table, as well as individual screens at each seat for the player.
The game on this cruise was always $1/2NL. Min buyin was $50, max was $300. All of your betting is done on your touch screen. You touch your cards to "reveal" them, so you actually cover them up like you would in "live" play. All of the community action is done on the LCD screen in the middle. I couldn't play that all the time, but I thought it worked pretty well.
The play on this cruise was the absolute worst poker I've ever seen. I'm not saying it was ONE of the worst......it was THE worst. Here's how my three sessions turned out:
Monday (+$190):
2 hour session
$200 buyin
$390 cashout
Tuesday (-$150):
2 hour session
$300 buyin
$150 cashout
Saturday (+$1250):
2 hour session
$250 buyin
$1500 cashout
I don't play cash that much, so I've never had a session at $1/2nl where I've ever been sitting on more then, say, $700. Sitting there with $1500, while the next closest stack had $450 (which is extremely respectable), felt very good. Unfortunately, for me, I had to get up and leave as we had somewhere to be on the ship. It's probably a blessing in disguise, as I would have probably found a way to lose some of that back.
Obviously, to do this well, I hit some hands.....but, more importantly, people just did extremely stupid things. And, once I had built up my stack, people gave me even less respect. I was in a lot of pots, and people would always seem to pay me off. There was one orbit where I believe I won 4 hands with pots of $50-100.
The biggest hand of that session for me was when I was holding A  5
I limped in, and then "Tina" (next to me) raised it up to $15. I had played with her at each of my sessions, and I had actually busted her twice on Monday. I had every intention of folding to her raise. However, two other slapdicks called her bet. These guys LOVED to push money around, as did Tina. I was already having a very nice session, up over $700. I figured...what the hell. With these players, this pot could get huge. Maybe I'll flop a miracle.
Wish for miracle.....GRANTED.
Flop:
Q  K  7
I check.
Tina bets $50.
The next guy thinks for awhile, and then moves all-in for $150.
The third guy acts immediately, and pushed all-in for $180.
My turn. Tina only has $100 left. I'm certain she's getting it in there as well. I move all in for around $725.
Tina calls for her remaining $100 or so.
Tina, Q/Q
First Guy, K/J
2nd Guy, J  8
Turn and river were blanks, and I drag the pot. And, then have to listen to Tina in my ear questioning how I could even make that pre-flop call. Easy....I WAS SOOOOOOTED! |
