The PR now has what they call Speed Tournaments a couple days a week.

The blind levels go up every 10 minutes.

At the end of one hour, the tournament is over. Who ever has the most chips is the winner.

Thoughts?

It doesn't sound interesting to me. Most likely its just super aggressive and luck plays a large factor.

no appeal to me. i prefer deepstacks where skill has a greater determination of who wins than luck.

If I played in this, I would try to accumulate as many chips as possible in the first hour.

That is the smartest thing I have heard all day on this forum.

This is my new strategy!

Okay. Was just wondering if I was missing something here. Why even bother having these tournaments?

Does this appeal to anyone at all?

There is a strategy to speed tournaments. Speed tourneys are normally profitable due to people having no idea how to play them.

This is definitely true. The cutting it off after 1 hour and awarding the payouts according to chipstacks negates it some, but good players still have an edge.

Is the PR charging a rake?

yes of course...
the new management wants to get people to the cash games as fast as possible.

Is it really over at the end of one hour regardless of how many players are left? That is RETARDED!

So why not just start a cash game and skip the tournament completely?

So why not just start a cash game and skip the tournament completely? well.
my guess is that people are goign to show to the tournies anyway. cause alot of those people like to just play tournaments no matter how bad the structure.its their form of entertainment.... so i guess he is still catering to them... at the same time he is trying to accomplish his goal of less tourney time and more cash game time...cause well he wants to make more money...(note the increased rake)

my guess is that the tournies everyday will be phased out... and they will have a weekly and a monthly....

Very true.

Situations and position against the people you want to match up against have more to do with it than anything else, cards do not matter many times.

I agree. Its a different game, different skill. It sounds like the PR's goal is to get everyone into the cash game as fast as possible. This will only hurt attendence and/or change the clientele.
